In the highly anticipated film "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," fans were introduced to a host of new gadgets and gizmos, including the ingenious Remote Trap Vehicle (RTV). As the latest addition to the Ghostbusters' arsenal, the RTV plays a pivotal role in capturing mischievous spirits and securing them for containment. Let's delve into what exactly the RTV is, how it operates, and its seamless integration with the iconic Ecto-1.
The RTV is a relatively new ghostbusting tool, invented by the brilliant Egon Spengler. It takes the form of a modified remote control car, specially designed to carry a ghost trap. This compact yet powerful vehicle serves as an invaluable asset to the Ghostbusters, offering a remote-controlled solution for capturing spectral entities safely and efficiently.
Essentially a remote control car outfitted with a ghost trap, the RTV is a marvel of engineering. It can be deployed while the Ecto-1 is in motion, complementing its capabilities in pursuit of spectral anomalies. This seamless integration is facilitated by a trap door and ramp located in the rear of the Ecto-1. Once the ramp is lowered, the RTV can exit the vehicle, all while being remotely controlled by an operator inside the Ecto-1.
The RTV's integration with the Ecto-1 is a testament to Egon's ingenuity and resourcefulness. With a dedicated docking station and a specially designed ramp, the Ecto-1 serves as both a transportation hub and a support platform for the RTV. This integration allows the Ghostbusters to deploy the RTV rapidly, ensuring a swift and coordinated response to spectral threats.
One of the most impressive feats of the RTV is its ability to capture spectral entities in motion. This is made possible by the coordinated efforts of the Ghostbusters team. While one member operates the Ecto-1, another takes control of the RTV remotely. As the Ecto-1 gives chase to the spectral anomaly, the operator in the gunner seat uses the seat's proton pack to restrain the entity with a proton beam. Meanwhile, the RTV, under remote control, maneuvers into position to deploy the ghost trap, capturing the entity. The RTV can then return to the Ecto-1 all while the vehicle is in motion.
Constructed from a Traxxas Stampede 4X4 remote control truck as a base. Just like in the movie used prop. Our RTV is built from the ground up using a Stampede stripped drive train and a 3D printed body and chassis from TacoBelli. After lots of research and help from all the users of the Facebook RTV builders group. The actual prop maker from Ghostbusters: Afterlife was found and a wealth of additional information was found on the RTV.
The Build
After stripping down the Traxxas Stampede I printed a new shortened chassis pan . The body, sides, top, and the trap doors. Along with a few other miscellaneous parts, including an off the shelf flashlight.
